History of the haunted forest trail
The local community and town council of Newmarket have been organizing this haunted trek since 2021. The purpose is to engage and bring excitement to the community during the pandemic. The haunted forest tour is also a way to gather donations for Newmarket’s food pantry.
This 2023 marks the third year for the haunted forest tour and we are just as excited as the first time we went there. For those brave souls with a penchant for the paranormal, the trek through the haunted forest of Newmarket might be just the spine-tingling adventure you’re looking for.
You’re not trekking alone
We won’t spoil the mystery, but we’d like to let you know that the haunted forest is not just merely fun and games. Before we delve into our trek, it’s important to understand the history and legends that surround this enigmatic forest. Located in Ontario, Newmarket’s haunted forest has been ridden with talks of local folklore for generations.
The most famous tale tells of a 19th-century pioneer family who disappeared without a trace during a snowstorm. Some say their restless spirits still wander these woods, searching for their long-lost home. Others speak of a shadowy figure who haunts the depths of the forest, emerging only under the cover of darkness. Whether you believe in these legends or not, they add an extra layer of intrigue to the journey ahead.
What scares you?
Whether it’s a clown, a spider, or Freddie Krueger, we experienced it all on the creepy trail of the haunted forest. We went as a group and the trek organizers from PSB Travel briefed us ahead of time regarding the tour guidelines on safety and security. We were also given our flash lights and assigned our trek buddies — at least we can get scared, together!
Expect the unexpected
Even as we enter the trail, some dead trees create an eerie atmosphere, and the rustling leaves sent chills down our spine. Keep your senses sharp and be prepared for the unexpected. Even the most harmless squirrels and chipmunks in the forest made us so jumpy and excitable!
The trail where organizers positioned the creepy creatures was just about a kilometer long. But for us, it felt like it was more than that since we can’t stop screaming at every corner. This tour has been a test of courage and agility – agility on how fast you can run if the situation calls for it!
Overall, this tour was a great option for groups, families, and friends to have some fun during this season. Whether you encounter something otherworldly or not, the forest’s atmosphere makes it a captivating destination for thrill-seekers and nature enthusiasts alike. Just remember to respect the environment and proceed with caution, and who knows, you might just have an experience you’ll never forget.
